Welcome to Wooster High School! We are excited to have you as part of the Colt family. Wooster High School's signature academy, the International Baccalaureate Programme, which includes the the Diploma Programme (DP) and Career Programme (CP), allows students a unique opportunity to prepare for post-secondary education, whether that is at the college level or in a career or technical program. The Middle Years Programme is a school wide program that all members of our Colt family in 9th or 10th grade are a part of. While this program helps students prepare for the IB DP and IB CP, it is a program that extends beyond preparation for our signature academy. All students benefit from the program's elements, regardless of whether they are in standard classes or one of our signature academy tracks. The program offers students the opportunity to explore components of education, like research and community service, in a fun and personal way. Students will have the opportunity to work on a Community Project in 8th grade (for more information, please contact Vaughn Middle School), service learning (all years), and the Personal Project (10th grade). Additionally, teachers at Wooster follow the IB philosophy that learning should be student-centered and exploratory. In classes, you'll see teachers encouraging inquiry and questioning so that students begin to shape their own learning.
This year, we're focusing more on our Personal Projects and Service Learning during Advisory class, which students have for 50 minutes every Wednesday. This class will allow students to work on Personal Project research, journals, reflection, and reporting. It will also give students the opportunity to research ideas for Service Learning, review our Service Learning board (located in the front office), and work on Service Learning reflections. For more information about Service Learning and the Personal Project, including time-lines and requirements, please see these sections.
If you have more questions about the MYP, IB DP, or IB CP, please join me for one of our IB Info Nights. Every third Wednesday of the month, our Booster's Club holds a meeting in our Career Center at 5:30. Promptly following the Booster's meeting, Ms. Lienau (IB DP Coordinator), Mr. Coli (IB CP Coordinator), and I will be available to go over requirements for the programs, benefits of the programs, and answer any questions you might have.
I look forward to meeting you and your family!
Sincerely,
Ms. Nikki Grose, IB MYP Coordinator
